Linn County Pest Calendar: What Shows Up Each Season
A season-by-season look at the pests that show up around Linn County homes, from spring ants and wasps to fall mice, and what to do about each one before it turns into a problem.
The Linn County Pest Calendar: What Shows Up and When
Pests around Linn County homes run on a schedule. Ants show up in the kitchen in spring, wasps peak in summer, mice come in with the first cold nights, and termites work on the wood the whole time. The Year-Round Pest Protection Plan is built around that calendar for homes in La Cygne, Mound City, Pleasanton, Parker, Blue Mound, Linn Valley and the surrounding area.
Spring: When Pests Wake Up
As temperatures rise, ants, termites, and other pests become active again.
- Ants: often the first sign of spring, working trails into kitchens and pantries looking for food.
- Termites: spring is swarm season, when winged swarmers come out to start new colonies. Termites cause an estimated $5 billion in property damage a year across the U.S., so catching them early matters.
How we help: the spring visit of the Year-Round Pest Protection Plan handles ants and the other early-season invaders. Termite inspections are a separate service and can help identify activity or conditions that need attention.
Summer: Peak Pest Activity
Warm weather and more time outdoors mean more opportunities for pests to get inside.
- Roaches and other crawling insects: common in kitchens and bathrooms, and they spread germs.
- Ants: they keep coming indoors for food and moisture as it gets hot and dry outside.
How we help: the summer visit targets ants and other covered household pests and includes reachable wasp nest removal. Ongoing cockroach protection applies after an initial infestation is corrected; cleanouts and flea treatments are separately quoted.
Fall: Pests Seeking Shelter
As it cools down, rodents look for a warm place to spend the winter, and your home looks appealing.
Rodents (mice and rats): they squeeze through small openings, chew wires, contaminate food and spread disease.
How we help: rodent control is a separate program from general pest service. Station monitoring, interior trapping and entry-point sealing address different parts of a rodent problem. We explain the work included in your rodent quote.
Winter: Pests Hiding Indoors
Pest problems don't disappear with the snow. Anything that made it inside during fall is often still active.
- Rodents: they keep nesting and foraging indoors.
- General pests: some insects stay active behind walls and in the warm areas of the house.
How we help: general pest coverage and covered-pest callbacks continue through winter, even though routine general pest visits are planned for spring, summer and fall. The exterior rodent add-on includes quarterly servicing, including winter. Indoor trapping and entry-point repairs are separately quoted.
Why Year-Round Protection Matters
Pest pressure is not a one-time problem, it runs on a cycle. The Year-Round Pest Protection Plan puts the right treatment down at the right time of year, which helps:
- Prevent infestations before they start
- Reduce activity from covered household insects
- Support your family's health by reducing exposure to pests
- Keep the pressure down all year instead of reacting to it

How the Year-Round Pest Protection Plan Matches This Calendar
Everything above is why Snow Pest Solutions works on a set schedule instead of a random one. The Year-Round Pest Protection Plan is three scheduled visits per year, timed for spring, summer and fall. Your initial service counts as the first of those three visits:
- Spring visit: resets the exterior barrier as ants wake up and overwintering pests move back out, and it is when we look hardest for termite evidence and moisture problems.
- Summer visit: peak activity. Wasp nests come down, cobwebs and egg sacs come off the eaves, and the perimeter gets renewed against ants and spiders.
- Fall visit: targets seasonal invaders such as stink bugs and boxelder bugs. Foundation inspections can also reveal openings that need separately quoted rodent or exclusion work.
Three visits, spring through fall, is what produces year-round protection. The fall treatment carries you through winter, when outdoor activity is low but indoor invaders are the whole problem. Monthly billing does not mean monthly visits. No routine visits are scheduled in December, January or February. And between planned visits you are covered by the Snow Service Promise: if covered pests return, contact our team and we will return and retreat affected areas at no additional charge.
When Something Needs Its Own Service
Exterior flea and tick protection is an optional add-on to ongoing general pest protection: $80 initial plus $24/month, billed across all 12 months. It includes three seasonal treatments alongside planned pest visits for agreed treatment areas under half an acre, such as town yards or selected rural living and pet areas. Larger treatment areas, extensive wooded edges and indoor flea work are quoted separately. Termite protection is a separate service. Exterior rodent prevention does not include indoor trapping or entry-point repairs; those needs receive a separate quote.
