Tick Season in Linn County and Nearby Kansas and Missouri Communities

Ticks are active here far longer than most people expect. Lone star ticks, one of the most common ticks in this region, start showing up in April, peak hard from May into July, and stay active into fall. American dog ticks overlap through late spring and summer, and blacklegged (deer) ticks stay active on warm days well into November and can be out again during a mild winter stretch.

That is why tick service is not a one-shot job. Treating once in June and calling it done leaves your yard open on both ends of the season.

Where Ticks Actually Live on Your Property

Ticks are more likely in brush, leaf litter and shaded edges, but they can also turn up in lawns. We focus treatment on the areas most likely to support tick activity:

What You Can Do Between Visits

Treatment and habitat maintenance work together. Keep the lawn mowed short where it meets tall grass. Rake leaf litter out of the fence rows in fall. Move wood piles off the ground and away from the house. Create a three-foot gravel or mulch strip between lawn and timber if you can, since ticks do not cross dry, open ground easily. Check yourself, children and pets after time outdoors. Ask your veterinarian about appropriate tick prevention for your pets.

An Honest Word About Ticks

Treatment can reduce tick activity in the areas your family uses, but it does not make a property tick-free. Wildlife and neighboring land can bring ticks back. We explain the recommended service timing for your property and practical habitat changes to make between visits.

Tick Control and Your Other Services

Exterior flea and tick protection is an optional addition to ongoing general pest protection: $80 initial plus $24/month. Three seasonal treatments are coordinated with planned general pest visits, and monthly billing continues across all 12 months. Standard pricing covers treated areas under half an acre, including town yards or selected outdoor living and pet areas on rural properties. Larger areas, extensive wooded edges and indoor flea treatment are quoted separately. This add-on is not included in the base general pest price.
